Artist Statement: This art piece, titled The Given Heart, is inspired by a mother’s unconditional love, care, and sacrifice for her child through a heart transplant journey. Her unwavering fight and compassion is a testament to how greatly she loves her children. This endless devotion is one of the many faces of “mom.” Mother figure or not, I hope this is a love everyone will experience in their lifetime and pass onto others.

Bio: Jenesis Miranda is a senior studying English with a minor in Urban and Community Studies. Her pronouns are she/her/hers. In her free time, Jenesis likes to read, hang out with her roommates, eat, and craft. She’s looking forward to starting grad school next fall to promote equal access to higher education for students of color.
